The State’s Attorney’s Office for Charles County understands that community safety starts with community members. Therefore, we are dedicated to keeping public safety not only inside of the courtroom, but also through public outreach.

We believe in actively engaging with the community and keeping the community informed. Representatives of The State’s Attorney’s Office meet with different organizations such as businesses, schools, religious institutions, and other community-based organizations, as well as attend and speak at numerous community events such as community meetings, council meetings, block association events, civic association events, etc.

Black History Month Celebration at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School

On February 22, 2020, State’s Attorney Tony Covington had the honor of receiving the Trailblazer Award at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School’s Black History Month Celebration event. The event featured music, poetry, a living African-American museum, and more.

Moot Court 2020

On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, State’s Attorney Tony Covington, Deputy State’s Attorney Karen Piper-Mitchell, and Assistant State’s Attorneys did a moot court exercise with the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy’s latest class of recruits. This exercise helps officers get accustomed to testifying in the courtroom, providing invaluable experience and feedback.

Lifestyle’s Thanksgiving Outreach

On November 25, 2019, members of the State’s Attorney’s Office had the pleasure of serving the community by volunteering with Lifestyles and providing over 665 Thanksgiving baskets to the community!

Community Awareness and Resource Day 2019

On Saturday, October 19, 2019, the State’s Attorney’s Office had the pleasure of partnering with the Center for Abused Persons, Sons of St. Michael, and the Charles County Sheriff’s Office for Community Awareness and Resource Day. This event brought resources to the community related to domestic violence and sexual assault, victim services, and mental health services.
