Initiative
Chronic Absenteeism Termination Program
The State's Attorney's Office for Charles County partnered with Charles County Public Schools and Stella’s Girls Inc. to implement the Chronic Absenteeism Termination (CAT) Program, an incentive-based initiative designed to help students at risk of chronic truancy improve their school attendance.
The program focuses on:
Attendance improvement
Student accountability
Family engagement
Mentorship and support
Throughout the program, participating students met regularly with a team of school and community professionals who worked to identify and address barriers to attendance in a supportive, judgment-free environment.
By encouraging goal setting, fostering positive relationships, and connecting students with resources, the CAT Program helped strengthen partnerships between families, schools, and the community. The initiative reflected a shared commitment to reducing chronic absenteeism, promoting student success, and keeping young people engaged in their education.
